Azerbaijan, Tajikistan to conclude several agreements

14 March 2007 [21:33] - TODAY.AZ
Briefing was held in Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's visit to Tajikistan.

Spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Igor Sattarov told the local and foreign journalists that diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan were established in 1992. But he stressed that they are not satisfied with the level of these relations.

"Economic relations in the past 15 years compared with other CIS member states were very low, as the interests of the sides have not been determined and there is no intergovernmental contract," he said.

Sattarov noted that Azerbaijan and Tajikistan have concluded only two agreements during the past 15 years. They are cooperation agreement on trade and economy signed between the governments in 1994 and mutual cooperation contract signed between Azerbaijan National security Ministry and Tajikistan National Security Committee.

"21 agreements to be concluded are being prepared," he said.

11 documents are expected to be signed during Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev's official visit to Tajikistan. The most important of them is the agreement on cooperation and friendship between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is planned to have one-on-one meeting, sign several agreements and hold briefing.

President Ilham Aliyev will visit ancient historical monuments, museums and participate in the several cultural events. President Ilham Aliyev will have a one-on-one meeting with Tajikistan's Prime Minister Akil Akilov on March 16.

Azerbaijani President will later meet with speaker of the Upper House of Tajikistan parliament Mahammadsaid Ubaydullayev and end his official visit after that. APA
