The statement condemns Iran's policy concerning the Azerbaijanis living there and stresses that Azerbaijanis undergo ethnic discrimination.
"The action, where Azerbaijanis demanded the restoration of their rights in May 2006 was suppressed by Iran's law enforcement bodies. The participants of the action were arrested and underwent tortures. The Azerbaijanis demanding the restoration of their rights to education, language and other human rights are arrested and they face ridiculous charges," the statement says.
The statement calls on the world community to pay attention to the recent events in Iran, APA reports.
"We demand the world community to respect national, political, social and cultural rights of 30 million Azerbaijanis, release arrested Azerbaijani political activists and to influence on Iranian government, basing on the principles declared in the UN’s charter," the statement says.
