Azerbaijan to open embassy in Seoul

24 February 2007 [08:25] - TODAY.AZ
Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said on Friday that Azerbaijan is working to open an embassy in Seoul for the first time since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1992.

Azerbaijan Ambassador to Seoul Rovshan Jamshidov and two other diplomats have been working in a Seoul hotel since their arrival here last Monday. They are now looking for an embassy office.

The move follows an agreement between President Roh Moo-hyun and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev in May 2006. South Korea set up a diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan in March last year.

The ministry said that the Azerbaijani diplomats hope to open a formal embassy office in Seoul early next month.

Azerbaijan had originally sought to open a diplomatic mission last year, but the plan was delayed until this year. The Korea Times
