Sergey Shamba: "Russia should decide whether it needs South Caucasus"

17 February 2007 [13:23] - TODAY.AZ
"Georgia is going to join NATO and this accession will occur in a few years," said "foreign minister" of separatist Abkhazian regime Sergey Shamba.

"As soon as Georgia becomes a NATO member, Armenia will have no other choice to make and it is possible to predict Azerbaijan's move," he said.

He insisted that Georgia's integration into NATO will fuel the situation in the region.

"Russia should comprehend that it is the climax. If the chance is missed, any move will be too late. Russia should think over whether it needs South Caucasus or not," he noted.

Shamba added he didn't request Russia to recognize Abkhazia, but Russia is suitable for both countries in the region, APA reports.
