This is the opinion of the Political Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which is set forth in a statement, circulated here on Wednesday after an outbreak of violence in Pristina at a demonstration against the plan of Martti Ahtisaari, special representative of the U.N. Secretary-General, concerning the future status of that territory.
On the present complicated stage of the process of working out the future status, the world community and the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) should be more careful than ever before and should not permit tension to develop into violence, the Political Commission believes.
"The Commission expects the resumption in the near future of the talks in Vienna, taking into account the Ahtisaari plan, and urges both Serbs and Kosovo Albanians to start talks, a constructive and pragmatic dialogue for the purpose of achieving positive results," the statement said. Itar-Tass
