Azerbaijan to host GUAM summit

09 February 2007 [16:14] - TODAY.AZ
The next summit of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development-GUAM (Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova) will be held in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku in June this year.

Commenting on the implementation of GUAM's decision on forming peacekeeping forces, Azerbaijani ambassador to Ukraine Telet Aliyev told APA that experts are working on the issue.

"GUAM's peacekeeping forces can be formed by the next summit," he said.

As to the possibility of dislocating GUAM peacekeepers in Nagorno Karabakh, Aliyev stated that it depends on the OSCE, which is dealing with the settlement of the conflict.

"The peacekeeping forces may be placed there if invited," he noted.

The decision of forming GUAM peacekeepers was passed at the organization's previous summit in Kiev on May 23, 2006.
