Novruz Mammadov: "Russia's hike gas price not danger to our relations"

24 January 2007 [14:59] - TODAY.AZ
"The priorities of Azerbaijani foreign policy does not change, the goal of this policy to turn Azerbaijan not only to the regional leader but also one of the prosperous, rich, safe, stable counties," stated President's Office international relations department chief Novruz Mammadov.

He told the APA that President would participate in World Economic Forum in Davos and then would pay state visit to France.

The president's first visit in 2007 to France means that West gives great importance to Azerbaijan. France is one of the most important counties of EU and at the same time of West. But it does not mean our relations with Eastern countries, Islamic states and CIS states will be in the second plan. Azerbaijani president implements rational policy.

Answering the question on the influence of Russia's increase the charges for gas to our bilateral relations, Mammadov highly appreciated present stage of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.

"Nothing remains as was, of course some changes occur. If Russian side decides to raise the prices and substantiates the reasons, we consider the issue, and express our opinion. It means, in the system of complicated relations, every side has grounds to take this kind of steps and we do not see any menace. If we are satisfied with the prices, we agree, but if not we say that we do not want to buy. If any difficulties occur we solve the problems by ourselves," he said.
