15 January 2007 [22:13] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan Democrat party Supreme Assembly chief Akif Shahbazov made statements on the rallies set by some opposition parties.

The statement says that the opposition parties do not have any perspectives.

"The opposition is concerned over new leaders. Actually, the opposition should have stopped its activity after presidential elections in 2005," the statement says.

Saying that the peoples has nothing to do with mass rallies held by the opposition, Shahbazov noted that he considers present actions serve to the interests of party leaders.

"Azadliq block's position on uncoordinated actions serves to the interest of party leaders, not people and party. Because these rallies have not been set by the parties, but by party leaders," he said.

Shahbazov said that the parties established on democratic principles now work on authoritarian principles.

"I do not think that the people that are ruled by stubborn and self-willed persons can live happy," he added.

Shahbazov said that the opposition has no right to speak on behalf of people, APA reports.
