Azerbaijan to answer CE on its commitments late February

11 January 2007 [16:53] - TODAY.AZ
"Azerbaijani side has not answered the Council of Europe on fulfilling its commitments yet," said the PACE Monitoring Committee co-rapporteur for Azerbaijan Andres Herkel.

He told the APA exclusively that the report on their visit to Azerbaijan (October 28 - November 3) with the other co-rapporteur – British parliamentarian Tony Lloyd was first read in the last meeting of the Monitoring Committee held in Paris on December 13.

"The report will again be discussed in the meeting of the Monitoring Committee to be held within the winter session of PACE on January 22-26. Besides, the report on Azerbaijan’s fulfilling CE commitments will be included on the agenda of the spring session of the organization," he said.

Taking a stance on Andres Herkel's statement, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov told the APA that Azerbaijani officials should give a reply concerning the report around late February and they will give it.

Samad Seyidov also said that the first reading of the co-rapporteurs' report has not taken place; Herkel just expressed his thoughts on the report and the visit to Azerbaijan on December 13 in Paris.

"Neither Tony Lloyd, nor I participated in this meeting. We have preliminary version of the report, and we will express our attitude and make proposals orally in the meeting of the Monitoring Committee. The report will be thoroughly discussed at the meetings of the Monitoring Committee to be held in March and the issue on Azerbaijan's fulfilling of CE commitments will be included on the agenda of the PACE session to be held in April," he said.
