Georgia opposition demands government to leave CIS

Georgia opposition has renewed discussions about Georgia's existence in the Commonwealth of the Independent States (CIS) following the Minsk summit again.

The member of opposition Democratic Front faction Zviad Dzidziguri called the parliamentarians to support the demand of withdrawal of the country from CIS, APA reports.

He said Georgia's withdrawal from CIS will make recent events and also Duma's decisions about South Ossetia and Abkhazia important. The speaker of the parliament Nino Burjanadze said that CIS countries do not share Russia's position in this case.

By the opposition's initiative, the parliament started discussing the issue of leaving the CIS in November and will continue discussion in the sitting to be held tomorrow.

Parliament also plans to appeal international community about the decision of Russia Duma.

Duma adopted the document about presidential elections and the results of the referendum in South Ossetia. Besides, the Duma discussed the Abkhazia parliament appeal to Russia president to recognize the independence of the country and to build associative relations between Russia and Abkhazia.
