04 December 2006 [20:50] - TODAY.AZ
The Year of Russia in Azerbaijan gave an additional impetus to the development and strengthening of bilateral relations, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov declared in Baku on Monday at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Now, the Year of Baku in Moscow and the Year of Moscow in Baku will continue the festival, Fradkov said.

"Our contacts have been developing and upgraded to a new qualitative level," Fradkov declared. He expressed satisfaction with the successful and dynamic development of cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector, which promotes strengthening political and humanitarian contacts. All the agreements reached by Russia and Azerbaijan are being fulfilled, Fradkov said.

Fradkov said at the talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart Artur Rasizade that he was hoping he would have some time to familiarize himself with the city.

"I am happy to be here. It is a very interesting visit both in terms of problems discussed and sightseeing opportunities," Fradkov said.

The relations between the two countries have been developing on all levels - in the economy, politics and the humanitarian field. The Year of Russia in Azerbaijan and the Year of Azerbaijan in Russia complement each other and create prerequisites for strengthening bilateral relations, Fradkov said.

For his part, Ilham Aliyev said that the Russian prime minister's visit to Azerbaijan would be useful and pleasant. Even today's weather with the sun shining like in spring contributes to the success of the visit, Aliyev said. Itar-Tass
