Larijani: Russians are against imposing sanction against Iran

12 November 2006 [20:59] - TODAY.AZ
On his return from his three days trip to Moscow, Iran's national security council secretary, Ali Larijani stated that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin had asserted that he would do all he could to resolve Iran's nuclear issue through negotiation.

Also while noting the possible sanction draft resolution by the Security Council he stated that any kind of resolution against Iran with its present content would change the resolving procedure of Iran's nuclear issue.

"Also in the discussion with the Russians, they asserted that they believed any sanction imposed on Iran would distort the logical and reasonable atmosphere," he reported.

"The Russians are against imposing sanction against Iran and they believe it closes doors to positive negotiations but there are some other countries in the international arena that insist on sanction," he added.

"Russia so far has played a great role in the process of negotiations," he asserted.

Also in response to a question stated by a reporter that whether there's a possibility that Iran-Russia joint consortium proposal could be stated again or not, Larijani answered that Iran had never rejected the offer.

"But because other subjects were of more priority, we didn't find a chance to discuss this matter in this trip," he added.

"The suspension is not the main issue; the main and key subject is Iran's inalienable rights. If Iran asserts its stances about research, development and the enrichment process and the materialization of these even in a political understanding framework, then other issue are of second hand importance," he asserted.
