02 November 2006 [21:39] - TODAY.AZ
Tony Llyod and Anders Herkel, PACE co-rapporteurs met with members of working group on the issue of political prisoners in Azerbaijan.

It was decided at the meeting that the working group should continue its activity. "We decided if we witness the process going normally, progresses achieved in this direction, then there wont be need for another co-reporter. But if we don't see any progress I'll insist on appointment of another co-reporter. After the meeting with the working group held in a good atmosphere we hope the problem will be resolved soon. We will also visit the inmates considered political prisoners and we want the sick ones to be pardoned. We will discuss this issue at our meetings in the Ministry of Justice and Office of the President," said Herkel.

The co-rapporteurs also met Nushiravan Maharramli, chairman of the National TV and Radio Council. Calling suspension of broadcasting of foreign TV and radio stations in Azerbaijan a complex issue Herkel said PACE representatives would deal with this matter. ANS
