Miklos Haraszti to discuss draft law on defamation in his visit to Azerbaijan

He said the article on defamation and slander should be removed from Criminal Code and added to Administrative Offence Code by OSCE recommendation.

The aim is to punish journalists in other ways, not by arrest sentence.

Haraszti also stated that some OSCE Member-states refuse to agree to the bill while others do.

"The bill is being discussed in Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is ready to join the convention if all European countries agree to this bill," he said.

OSCE representative plans to hold seminar in Azerbaijan, APA reports.
