President Aliyev meets Latvian counterpart

On 4 October, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who arrived in Latvia for a 3-day state visit, was welcomed by the country's President Mrs. Vaira Vike-Freiberga at her official residence, the Riga castle.

During a tete-a-tete meeting, the heads of state noted successful development of versatile relations between two countries. The Presidents have discussed issues of cooperation in the frame of international organizations, interaction in the field of integration to the European structures, making accent on necessity of the expansion of economic links.

After the private meeting of two Presidents, the meeting of delegations was held.

Greeting the Azerbaijani President, Mrs, Vaira Vike-Freiberga noted that she was pleased with the state visit of Mr. Aliyev to Latvia, making accent that it foretells about the development of bilateral relations. Reminding her official visit to Azerbaijan, the Latvian President said Aliyev's state visit is of great importance from the point of view of discussing and analyzing the results achieved in bilateral relations.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked to Mrs, Vaira Vike-Freiberga for hospitality shown to him and the delegation, noting that "as the President of Azerbaijan, I attach special significance to the relations between our countries and their all-round development. As Latvia is the member of NATO and the European Union, has gained experience in integration to Europe and Azerbaijan could benefit from this experience." AzerTAg
