Azeri envoy in Tehran advices Azerbaijan's mass media not to publish materials causing Iran's jealousy

20 September 2006 [20:06] - TODAY.AZ
"Azerbaijani press should not publish articles causing Iran’s jealousy. Iranian press gives coincident reaction to the articles publicized by Azerbaijani press," stated Abbasali Hasanov, Azeri ambassador to Iran.

He told the APA exclusively Azerbaijani embassy is taking measures for preventing anti-Azerbaijan articles in Iranian press. The ambassador stated the necessity of removing the mutual contradictions between the presses of the two countries.

"There are 35 million Azerbaijanis living in Iran. But they are Iranian citizens. Their living conditions are Iran's interior problem. Azerbaijanis know better how to live here. During the bilateral meetings, I have many times protested to introduction of Azerbaijan as Northern Iran. But I do not face counterreaction regarding this matter. They say why Azerbaijani press call northern Iran South Azerbaijan. These issues must be taken serious. There is no need to make historical dispute," the ambassador said.

He said Iran is neighbor country, and any mistake can damage the relations between the two countries.

"Azerbaijan faces much greater problem-Garabagh conflict. But some take advantage of the situation of Azerbaijanis in Iran aiming to gain dividend. It may harm Azerbaijan," he underlined.
