Azeri oppositionist hints at 2008 presidential bid

28 August 2006 [20:23] - TODAY.AZ
Umid (Hope) party Chairman Iqbal Agazade said that "if events unfold normally," he will run for president in the ballot due in late 2008.

Agazade, who is one of a small handful of opposition parliament deputies and whose party was a founder member of the Center for Opposition Political Coordination, downplayed the inactivity of opposition parties since the November 2005 parliamentary election. In interview published on August 26 by the online daily echo-az.com he further expressed doubts over the likelihood of progress in the near term toward resolving the Karabakh conflict.
