Mahir Javadov denies reports on his intention to run for 2008 presidential elections

28 July 2006 [19:39] - TODAY.AZ
"I wanted the reports on my being detained by German police to be made public," stated former prosecutor of Khatai district of Baku Mahir Javadov.

Javadov, who is in exile in Zalsburg, Austria, told APA he did it for political and juridical interests.

"I aimed at causing damage to the image of Azerbaijani authorities," he underlined.

He refuted the reports on his intention to run for the presidential elections in Azerbaijan in 2008.

"Neither me nor any political migrants abroad can run for political elections in Azerbaijan. We need to be officially invited from Azerbaijan for that. We, my colleagues do not want to discuss this impossible issue," he underlined.

The former prosecutor said he is persecuted for political motives. "My living in Austria and Iran and my supporters in US, Germany, France and Netherlands obviously prove this."
