Abdullah Gul: "We'll be the sufferer if any tension breaks out in Iran"

03 July 2006 [17:09] - TODAY.AZ
"We help to reduce tension in establishing a dialogue between Israel and Palestine. Turkey is having relations with both Israel and Palestine at the same time," Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul told journalists.

He said both sides get in contact with Turkey when the two states have a problem.

"It is not a right action to arrest the ministers, they should be released immediately. US President also expressed readiness to make efforts to release the Palestinian government members. According to recent polls, half of Israeli citizens are ready for a dialogue with the Hamas," the Turkish Foreign Minister said.

Gul said Turkey has also become one of the sides to the negotiating process for the solution of the issue on Iran’s nuclear program.

"I witness both sides intend to solve the problem diplomatically. However, they lack confidence to each other. If this problem is not solved, severe controversies break out, the world would suffer unpleasant events then. The flame in Iraq burns the people in the country and also catches us. If there is any tension in Iran, we will be the sufferer," Gul said.

The Turkish minister is on diet due to his health, "I refuse candies and dough. But I have recently visited Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Iran. The cuisine is very rich in these countries. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev gave a dinner-party to us in Baku."

As soon as we finished the meal, another kind was offered to us. We had this and again another one came. I could not help making a joke, saying, "Mr. President, I think we made you be hungry in Turkey".
