PACE summer session to debate on issue on Azerbaijan on the first day of its work

21 June 2006 [20:00] - TODAY.AZ
A change has been made to the agenda of the summer plenary session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), which takes place in Strasbourg from 26 to 30 June 2006.

The debate on the Implementation of Resolution 1480 (2006) on the challenge of credentials of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation was scheduled to be held on June 29. According to the new agenda, this issue will be debated on the first day of the session, June 26.

Commenting on this change in the agenda, head of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation Samad Seyidov told the APA that Russian Foreign Minister, chairman of the Committee of Ministers, Sergei Lavrov was to address the session on the first day but he won't be able to arrive in Strasbourg on that day. Therefore, the issue on Azerbaijan will be debated on that day. Mr.Seyidov also said this change satisfies Azerbaijan.

"It is good that the issue will not be discussed on the last day of the plenary session. Thus, there are fewer parliamentarians on that day in comparison with the first day. So, there will be a good chance to express Azerbaijan's stance, and we'll express our views benefiting from this chance," the delegation head concluded.
