Azerbaijani Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the United States Hafiz Pashayev gave a briefing in the Congress in the Capitol at initiative of working group on Azerbaijan.

As APA reports, the Ambassador's briefing is dedicated to Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev’s latest visit to US.

The briefing brought together representatives of foreign relations from the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Ambassador Pashayev gave detailed information on the talks President Ilham Aliyev had in Washington. Characterizing the talks with US President, Vice-President, Secretary of State, Defense and Trade Secretaries and several other officials of the administration as talks between the two strategic partners, Mr.Pashayev reminded that the four hours of the short-term visit were spent on talks in the Congress. He said President Ilham Aliyev discussed energy security, issue on Iran and other issues of mutual interest with American lawmakers at the meetings in the Congress.

"I think the discussions focused on a new important issue-Azerbaijan's appearing in the world market as gas exporter. The "Shah Deniz" gas will be delivered to European markets by the end of this year. The recent events indicated that our region is in great need of alternative gas supplier. The attention can be focused on gas projects after full commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan main export oil pipeline," the Ambassador said.

Stating that after the President's visit, different circles of America had the view of the situation in Azerbaijan as it is in real, the diplomat added Azerbaijan cannot completely succeed without democratic reforms.

"This is the stance of Ilham Aliyev administration. President Aliyev said in his meeting with George Bush that he is satisfied with US promotion to development of democracy in the country and hopes for further joint cooperation," he said.

Hafiz Pashayev responded to the questions of the congressmen after that. Answering the question what developments he wants to see in Azerbaijan-US relations in future, the ambassador said, "I expect completely annulling of the Section 907 adopted by the US Congress against Azerbaijan."
