Azerbaijani delegation to raise question for co-rapporteurs insulting authorities

01 June 2006 [15:10] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani delegation to the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) will raise a question at PACE related to the Monitoring Committee co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan Andreas Gross and Andres Herkel making insulting statements on the Azerbaijani authorities.

The delegation head Samad Seyidov told APA. Reporting that the delegation will attend the Monitoring Committee's meeting in Paris in June, Seyidov said they will complain to the Committee authorities.

"We'll notify that the co-rapporteurs on the country use insulting words in the talks, conferences on the country authorities. They should not use expressions contrary to political ethics. We regard such statements as a factor demonstrating their stances and levels. Their expressions cannot possibly stand in line with any international ethics. This indicates their biased approach to the issues," Seyidov said.

As coming to the delegation’s offering any proposal on replacing the co-rapporteurs in PACE June session, the delegation head said they are not going to do this.

"The matter is not just replacing the co-rapporteurs. The main thing is the organization’s approach towards Azerbaijan which is clear. The organization’s general position is specific, open and clear. So, such statements by the co-rapporteurs do not represent the organization’s attitude," he underlined.

As coming to the co-rapporteurs' dissatisfactions because of not being received by ministerial level during their latest visit to Azerbaijan, Seyidov considered it natural.

"They would have sought another pretext if they had been received by Ministers. It is not for the first time, they have many times used these expressions. They have not been satisfied with anything so far. So, I do not see anything strange in their being dissatisfied for not having been received in high level this time. I will notify the PACE Monitoring Committee authorities to take action about it," Seyidov stressed.
