Azerbaijan's flag burnt in Tehran

25 May 2006 [15:44] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's state flag has been burnt while two thousand protesters held an action outside the Azerbaijan's Embassy in Tehran in the evening of May 24.

Spokesman of the South Azerbaijan National Revival Movement (SANRM) bureau in Baku, Aghri Garadaghli told APA that the protesters shouted slogans denouncing the rallies in Azerbaijan and Tabriz and called the Iranian Azerbaijanis protesting the Iranian regime as treacherous slaves of the US and the West.

Azerbaijani ambassador to Iran Abbaseli Hasanov refuted the report on burning of our national flag in Iran.

"After the rallies in Tabriz there was no protest action outside the Azerbaijani Embassy. The report on setting a fire to Azerbaijan's flag is nonsense," Mr.Hasanov said.

The ambassador also noted that he got in touch with our consul in Tabriz Aykhan Suleymanov and there was no report on burning of the flag.
