Georgia and Ukraine quitting the CIS won't have serious impact on Azerbaijan's position

20 May 2006 [19:49] - TODAY.AZ
"Though Georgia and Ukraine are reported to quit the Commonwealth of Independent States soon, officials of these states have not yet made any statements with this regard.

Therefore, Azerbaijan cannot take a stance on these inexact reports," said Novruz Mammadov, chief of the presidential administration's international affairs department while commenting on the issue whether Azerbaijan will quit the CIS.

The department head said that even if these countries leave the CIS, it will not have a serious impact on Azerbaijan's stance.

"We are not going to take such a step under the influence of others. On the other hand, all the details of Azerbaijan's foreign policy meet the state's interests. Saakashvili ad Yushchenko might have aimed to carry out a maneuver. So, we don't intend to share these statements as there is not a concrete step," Mammadov concluded.
