Opposition party claims vote rigging

14 May 2006 [21:16] - TODAY.AZ
An opposition representative has criticized the conduct of Azerbaijan's repeat parliamentary elections held on Saturday.

"The poll held in ten constituencies was totally falsified. According to preliminary observations, new elections must be conducted at least in three constituencies," the spokesman for the Party for National Independence, Ali Guliyev, said.

"It is very unfortunate that the authorities have again failed to fulfill their commitments to the Council of Europe."

Guliyev added that data on the by-elections would be collected and submitted to relevant bodies soon, AssA-Irada informs.
