Leo Platvoet: "I don't think 6 November events will happen again"

According to APA, Mr. Platvoet said that the recommendations given in January session of PACE have not yet been fulfilled. Saying that they criticize it, Platvoet stressed they will announce final opinion after the elections are over. The PACE representative said he does not believe the re-elections will be ideal as the recommendations have not been taken into consideration.

"I cannot say everything will be all right tomorrow. However, there are some improvements with this regard. For example, Azerbaijan's applying the Venice Commission regarding making amendments to the Election Code. PACE suggested making amendments before the elections. However, we were told that you cannot change the rules of a game during the game. So, we shall offer our suggestions regarding amendments to the Election Code after the elections are over," Leo Platvoet said.

Responding to the question on possibility of considering credentials of Azerbaijani delegation to PACE in case the election results are falsified, Platvoet said they are not dealing with election results, they will not base their opinions on the results.

"We'll observe the electoral process, we want to know how democratic and fair the elections will be. Quite different issues might be discussed in the PACE June Session in comparison with the January Session if everything is normal and legal tomorrow," PACE representative underlined.

Platvoet does not think the events happened during the 6 November parliamentary elections will happen again.

"The authorities faced criticisms after those elections. If the same situation happens it will cause new problematic situation," he noted.
