Armenian populists offended by the nickname "populists"

01 April 2025 [12:00] - TODAY.AZ

Funny situation: Armenian parliamentarian Sarkis Khandanyan was offended that Baku rejected his populist proposal.

Khandanyan, who heads the parliamentary committee on foreign policy, suggested holding a meeting with the Azerbaijani parliamentary committee on the border. In Baku, Khandanyan's idea was rejected and labeled as populism.

That's what Khandanyan seems to be upset about—he's already written a separate post on X.

Why is he offended? There are no relations between the two countries, and although a peace treaty exists, it hasn’t been signed. What exactly should the deputies discuss? Issues related to the signing? That's not really within their area of expertise. And if not a peace treaty, then what?

Or does Khandanyan not understand that this meeting would just turn into a tea party in front of the cameras? He probably understands. So, is his idea not populism? Of course, it is.

So why is he offended, then?
