Afghani President Karzai to attend ECO conference in Azerbaijan

President of Afghanistan Hamid Karzai will leave for Azerbaijan on Thursday to attend the two-day meeting of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) in Baku.

Presidential spokesman Khaliq Ahmad told Pajhwok Afghan News on Tuesday Karzai would meet heads of states and governments or representative of the member countries and inform them about the business opportunities in Afghanistan.

Khaliq said the president would also meet his counterpart from Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Pakistani Premier Shaukat Aziz. He will discuss bilateral relations and cooperation with the leaders.

The issue of electricity supply from Iran, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan will also come under discussion during his parleys with representatives of the three countries.

Cabinet ministers, including Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Rangeen Dadfar Spanta, Energy and Water Minister Ismail Khan, Communication Minister Amirzai Sangin, outgoing Minister for Transport Inayatullah Qasimi, Commerce Minister Mohammad Amin Farhang, President Karzai's advisor on national security Zalmay Rasool and chief of the presidential office Javid Lodin will accompany him to Baku.
