Defense Minister met his Iranian counterpart

The Azerbaijani Defense Minister, general colonel, Safar Abiyev met with the Defense Minister of the Islamic republic of Iran, Mustafa Mohammed Najjar, who has arrived with the official visit to Azerbaijan.

No documents have been signed at the meeting, Trend reports.

Abiyev reminded his guest about the official visit of the Azerbaijani President, Ilham Aliyev to the Islamic Republic of Iran on January, 2005.

"This visit served as an impetus for broader cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan in all areas including military one," Abiyev said.

He also mentioned about the Nagorno Karabakh conflict stressing that Azerbaijan prefers peaceful resolution.

"However, if negotiations won't yield fruits, Azerbaijan will use other methods," he said.

Iranian Minister expressed hope that his visit would assist increase of bilateral cooperation.

Najjar will visit the honor alley and the Shahids alley April 20. The same day he is expected to meet the Head of the state, Parliamens speaker, Oktay Asadov, and Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammedyarov.
