Justice Ministry to submit petition to Hungarian Ministry

The Azerbaijani Justice Ministry will submit petition to the Hungarian Justice Ministry on extradition of Ramil Safarov, an Azerbaijani officer, sentenced to life-imprisonment by the Budapest Court, Zaver Gafarov, the Head of the International Legal Cooperation Department of the Justice Ministry, informs.

He informed that irrespective of the sentence, the Hungarian government at all cases must ensure his extradition to the Motherland, as Azerbaijan is member of the international convention. "The CE Convention adopted in 1983 includes an article on the extradition of the convicted to the country he holds a nationality for service of imprisonment term. In compliance with the Article, irrespective of the sentence a citizen has a right to serve his imprisonment term in the country he holds a nationality. Azerbaijan and Hungary are members of the international convention. Taking this opportunity, we will submit a petition to the Hungarian Justice Ministry," Gafarov noted.

Safarov's defenders are going to submit an appeal on the verdict. Therefore, it is impossible to appeal to the Hungarian government on his extradition to Azerbaijan.

He reminded that the second hearings on Safarov are still to complete.

The law-enforcement bodies of Budapest fled one suit on Safarov. He is accused of resisting the employees of the prison he was kept in. legal proceedings in this respect will continue May 7, Trend reports.
