Two opposition activists detained

13 April 2006 [12:17] - TODAY.AZ
Two activists of the major opposition Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) were detained on Wednesday, the party said.

The chairman of PFPA's Binaghadi district branch, Rovshan Azayev, and the head of the party’s organizational department, Shahin Hasanli, were arrested in their homes. The local police have cited an attempt to stage a protest rally as the reason for their detention, PFPA deputy chairman Fuad Mustafayev told AssA-Irada.

The two were trying to protest outside the Grave Crimes Court in protest at the closed-door trial of the Yeni Fikir youth movement executives, who are facing charges of attempting to overthrow the legitimate government and illegal entrepreneurship.
