Russian MP: "All attempts of dialogue between Armenia and Azerbaijan end up with a failure"

22 February 2006 [12:31] - TODAY.AZ
"Dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia is necessary for settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict."

"Russia has always called its partners for showing restrain and presence of mind, for all on what peace and wealth of the people depend. By the way, it is not important at all who and when unleashed the conflict. Now for everyone including Russia, there is only one acute question of top priority: peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict," Deputy Head of the Russian State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs and Ties with Compatriots Akhmed Bilalov has said commenting on the Russian stance in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. On February 21-22, Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a work visit in Azerbaijan, while the situation in Nagorno Karabakh is one of the issues on the agenda of the visit.

"Unfortunately, at present moment any attempts of a dialog between Armenian and Azerbaijan end up with a failure, run into an obstacle of mutual misunderstanding. It is not blame of any of the parties. In settlement of any conflicts, first of all, comes a wish to settle it, then mutual concessions, and only then a consensus. Not enough time has passed either for Azerbaijan or for Armenia for the pain to abate and the resentment to go away. Only after the things about Karabakh calm down the parties can resolve for a dialog. In our turn, we are ready to provide for place for talks and dialog, but I repeat, Armenia and Azerbaijan should be ready to give up part of the national pride for the sake of settlement of the long debate and stabilization," Bilalov said.

It should be noted, as Deputy Head of the Russian Federation Council Foreign Affairs Committee Umar Jabrailov thinks, Russia can not only become a guarantor in the conflict settlement, but it is the only force that can be guarantor of the conflict settlement, at the same time, providing for mutual interests for all the parties.
