Baku rebuffs Armenian Defense Minister

20 February 2006 [16:18] - TODAY.AZ
Statement of the Defense Minister and Security Secretary of Armenia, Serzh Sarkisian, that Azerbaijan did not back a document approved by the OSCE Minsk Group, is not true.

As Trend reports, that was claimed by Novruz Mammadov, the Head of the Department for Foreign Affairs of the Azerbaijani President Office.

Refuting such a statement he underlined that Armenian Minister said it in several days after talks. The statement was to be made in Rambouillet to receive immediate reply, he added. Generally, Sarkisian has no right to come out with such statements. If there were such a fact, then the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs should state on it, Mammadov stressed.

"Azerbaijan decisively voices its position on the resolution of the conflict, - Mammadov underlined, - The President of Azerbaijan has stated that Azerbaijan will not compromise even the smallest part of its territory. The conflict should be resolved on the territorial integrity base and international rule of law. Let them to put on table of talks a document on these principles and then judge weather we accept it or not. We will never approve other form of recommendations."

In reply to question on possible organization of a meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Presidents, Mammadov said that he had no nformation of a new meeting.
The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will more probably meet in Washington March, while the Presidents are expected to hold a meeting during this year.
