Nino Burjanadze meets with delegation led by Ziyafet Askerov

The delegation led by the First Deputy Speaker of Milli Mejlis Ziyafet Askerov is on a visit in Georgia to attend the conference "Strategies on reforms and collaboration" organized by George Marshall Center and Parliament of Georgia for parliamentarians from the South Caucasus and Baltic States.

The delegation met with Deputy Speaker of Georgian Parliament Jemal Inaishvili and MP Zurab Chkuburia. Georgia bureau of APA reports that, the discussions focused on Georgia-Azerbaijan relations, the situation in the country, withdrawal of Russian military bases from Georgia.

Georgian parliamentarians giving detailed information about Abkhazia and South Osetia conflicts noted that, the parliament will hear the report on South Osetia drawn up by the government by 10 February: "We do our best to liberate our territories which we lost as a result of wrong policy of Edward Shevardnadze once by peaceful way. Unlike Shevardnadze, the late Heydar Aliyev did much for Azerbaijan. Let the brotherly Azerbaijani people know that, not only you, but also we, Georgians are proud of Heydar Aliyev phenomena."

Z.Askerov expressed his gratitude to them and touched on the relations between the two friend countries, reforms, constructions carried out in Azerbaijan.

Receiving the Azerbaijani delegation, Speaker of Parliament of Georgia Nino Burjanadze expressed her satisfaction of the development of the relations between the two brotherly countries and thanked to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for supplying Georgia with gas and electricity after the telephone between Mikhail Saakashvili and him when Georgia faced energy crisis. The meeting was continued behind closed doors.

The Azerbaijani delegation was received by deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia Valeryan Chechelashvili and director of George Marshall Center on behalf of Colonel Gerhard Blessing after noon.
