Visit of Minsk Group co-chairs to Azerbaijan finished

02 February 2006 [16:48] - TODAY.AZ
Last night a one-day visit of the Minsk Group co-chairs to Azerbaijan finished.

The visit was unplanned and considered as a part of preparations for the meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents. During the visit, the foreign diplomats held talks in the Azerbaijani foreign ministry and met President Ilham Aliyev.

As the Ekho newspaper writes, a remarkable thing in the co-chairs' visit was its "secrecy". The diplomats categorically refused to talks to the press. So, there was no traditional news conference of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, with which they used to finish their previous visits. Noteworthy, the Azerbaijani foreign ministry has also kept silence on the agenda of the talks held.

"Such confidential form of activity of the Minsk Group co-chairs contradicts democratic principles," political analyst Zardusht Alizade told Ekho commenting on the behavior of the foreign diplomats. "They have nothing to discuss," assures the analyst. Moreover, both in Yerevan and in Baku, according to him, the opposition forces are biding their time to start using the Karabakh issue in their political interests. "All this is imitation of talks and nothing else," insists the analyst.
