Rafael Huseynov: "Council of Europe fact finding mission should start investigation of destruction of monuments from Armenia"

31 January 2006 [04:12] - TODAY.AZ
Council of Europe will set up fact finding mission and send it to the region on proposal of Azerbaijan to discover the condition of historical, cultural monuments in the lands under occupation.

As APA reports, being aware of this initiative, Armenians distributed documents to the MPs on destruction of alleged Armenian monuments in Julfa in Nakhchivan at the winter session of Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE).

The member of the delegation of Milli Majlis to PACE, member of PACE Science, Education, Culture Committee, Environment Committee and Human Rights Committee Rafael Huseynov told that when Azerbaijani MPs raised a question on destruction of our cultural monuments in the territories under occupation, Armenians raised question on alleged destruction of Armenian graves in Nakhchivan and other places, destruction of alleged monuments belonging to Armenian, which are Alban churches in reality, and proposed that fact finding mission should conduct investigation in both territories of Azerbaijan under occupation, in Nakhchivan and other places.

"I don't consider this question to be correct, it is incorrect from political point of view either. Both Nakhchivan and territories under occupation are the lands of Azerbaijan. If the mission wants to conduct balanced and objective investigation, it has to visit Armenia besides Azerbaijan. Thousands of geographical names were wiped out from the maps and the history in the territories in Armenia where Azerbaijanis lived. All graveyards and historical monuments were razed in the territories Azerbaijanis lived. Graves of genius Ashig Alasgar, historical figures from Goycha and other creative figures were razed by Armenians. If fact finding mission conducts investigation, firstly it has to start from Armenia".
