Azerbaijani officials and 14 EU experts work on the first stage of negotiations on the European New Neighborhood Policy

Tahir Tagizade, head of Press and Information Policy Department of the Foreign Ministry told journalists that negotiations between Azerbaijan and European Union have been initiated in the Foreign Ministry yesterday.

Negotiations dedicated to preparation of a draft Action Plan of Azerbaijan with this organization in the framework of European New Neighborhood Policy are conducted by the 14 experts of the EU and the delegation led by the deputy minister of foreign affairs Mahmud Mammadguliyev.

Mammadguliyev told the journalists one day before the talks started that experts are going to draw a list of actions between Azerbaijan and the EU. The official predicted that the co-operation between the EU and Azerbaijan will reach a higher level when the program is initiated.

"The program covers political, economical fields, as well as human rights and etc. Since, the negotiations started we managed to overcome artificial obstacles on our way. The talks also will include question of Europe's role in Karabakh matter. It is expected that during the talks there will be new suggestions made," said Mammadguliyev.

The duputy minister also noted that the first round of the talks is conducted in Baku but the the second round will be in Brussels. Besides that he noted that all the three Southern Caucasian states will join the program at the same time.
