CIS Council of Defense Ministers adopted a draft agreement on establishment of a unified system on radiation intelligence

The routine meeting of the CIS Defense Ministries Council attended by Azerbaijan's Minister of Defense Safar Abiyev was held in Moscow yesterday.

Participants in the meeting adopted a draft agreement on organization of interaction among the CIS defense ministers in the sphere of radiation intelligence and establishment of the Unified system for revealing radiation, chemical and biological.

So far, there is only one unified system – CIS Air Defense Forces on the territory of CIS, which was established for collective interests. To consolidate it, Russia in 2006 will deliver to Belorus two divisions of zenith missile complexes S-300 PS. It will be used for rearming the brigade 115 of the Air Forces and Air Defense Forces of Belorus dislocated in Bretsk Province.

Attending the gathering were the defense ministers of seven CIS countries: Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belorus, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and Tajikistan.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan were represented on the level of deputy defense ministers. Moldova, Georgia and Turkmenistan did not send delegates to the meeting.
