International Democrat union Leaders’ Meeting held in Washington ended.
According to the information given to APA by organization secretary of NIPA Fuad Mukhtarov, the highlight of the meeting was about the campaigns for democracy in the world and in Near East which are intensifying day by day.
According to him, leader of NIPA, deputy chairman of the International Democrat Union Etibar Mammedov focused on the pre-election situation in Azerbaijan in his speech. Stating of the struggle for democracy not to belong only different states but worldwide process, Etibar Mammedov stressed the importance for all democratic states, as well as the states of member parties of the International Democrat Union to support this process. NIPA leader participated in the breakfast arranged for the leaders by the USA President George Bush after the meeting.
Roundtable was held in the White House with the participation of the USA President and new chairmanship of IDU after the breakfast. The roundtable brought together chairman of IDU, Australian Prime minister John Hovard, deputies chairman of IDU-NIPA leader Etibar Mammedov, Greek Prime minister Kostas Karamanlis and Norwegian Foreign Minister Yan Peterson, too. George Bush stated that he will mobilize all the opportunities of his country and his personal opportunities for the triumph of democracy and this wave of democracy will spread to all the states in his speech in the roundtable. He particularly stressed that, the way to democracy goes through free elections and the USA will be with the democratic forces forever. George Bush also stated that, democracy is not under anyone’s monopoly and this human concern all the states in the world. NIPA leader Etibar Mammedov made a speech in the roundtable focusing on the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan and said of this year to be great test for the democracy.
Etibar Mammedov called on the democratic world to be the participant in this process not observer. The sides debated some issues of mutual interest in the roundtable.
Organization secretary of NIPA Fuad Mukhtarov told APA that, Etibar Mammedov is expected to conduct meetings in the USA State department, National Security Council, Republicans Institute and National Democracy Institute on 20-21 July. Election of chairman and deputy chairman of International Democrat Union for the next three years was held in its Leaders’ Meeting held in Washington. Australian Prime Minister John Howard was elected as chairman of International Democrat Union and ANIP leader Etibar Mammedov, Prime Minister of Greece Karamanlis, Norwegian Foreign Minister Peterson were elected as deputy chairman of IDU.
It must be noted that, International democrat Union is a working association of over 80 conservative and like minded political parties of the center and center right from 56 countries. Republicans Party of the USA, Conservatives Party of Great Britain, Christian Democrat Union of Germany, Moderate Party of Sweden, Union of Right Forces of Russia, Likud Party of Israel are member parties of the International Democrat Union.
