Samad Seyidov: “Azerbaijan government is interested in holding of elections to European standards”

Head of Azerbaijani delegation to Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE), chairman of Milli Majlis (parliament) permanent commission of international relations and inter-parliamentary relations Samad Seyidov held press conference at the headquarters of YAP yesterday.
He stated that, the measures taken in the country in the direction of development of democracy, defending human rights, protecting freedom of expression and press are highly appreciated by the PACE and he also talked about the measures for removing the important problems.

Highly appreciating the activity of the delegation in the past period, S.Seyidov expressed his confidence that, the next elections will be free, fair, democratic and transparent.” The recent Resolutions of PACE on Azerbaijan show that, the corresponding committees of the organization appreciate the measures taken in our countries positively. There were items concerning as if there are shortcomings in the bar and barristers, and the law on this doesn’t meet European standards, the penitentiary system is not satisfactory and etc were mentioned in the initial variants of the resolutions .However, the improvement of Azerbaijani delegation on defending human rights and democratization were taken into consideration and amendments were made to the final documents.

The living conditions of prisoners in Azerbaijan have been improved recent years and the regime rules have been simplified. Besides, Milli Majlis made additions and amendments to a number of juridical normative documents regarding the improvement of law “About the bar and barristers””.Stating that, more than 1000 observers of various international organizations will observe the election, S.Seyidov told the authority is interested in holding the elections meeting European standards. He stressed that, the measures taken on these directions and the results will increase the international prestige of Azerbaijan”.
