International conference on “Political prisoner problem in Azerbaijan” subject to be held

This was informed to APA by the organizers of a measure. The measure is realized on the amount of a grant allocated by the “Reintegration of the sentenced persons” Association in the frame of the “Political prisoner problem in Azerbaijan: working and preparing the efficient citizen control mechanism” project. 37 experts from Germany, Slovenia, Holland, Great Britain, Romania, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Denmark, Estonia and Latvia will participate in the conference. These experts are specialized deputies of the parliaments of their countries, the scientists in the field of law, and on the “political prisoners” subject.

The special representative on Azerbaijan of the general secretary of Council of Europe Mats Lindberg, the member of the Pardon Commission at the president of Bulgaria Daniel Stoyanov, the justice minister of Estonia, the expert on Armenia of CE Rayt Kuse and other persons will participate in the conference. An exchange of views on the subject of determining of criterions of the “political prisoner” conception from the standpoint of international law, CE’s attitude to the political prisoner problem in Azerbaijan, activity of the local NGO’s in connection with this problem, rights of the prisoners and the international prison standards, and other questions will be held in the conference to last two days. An order will be adopted at the end of the measure.

The conference is the last stage of the project on the “Political prisoner problem in Azerbaijan: working and preparing the efficient citizen control mechanism” subject.
