Press Council of Azerbaijan protests to "Freedom House"

APA was informed of it through the statement received from PC. It announces that, it is unacceptable that the organization investigating the problems of press in world scale attitudes carelessly to the balanced approaching principle: "Press Council unites more than 180 mass media. The struggle of the organization against "blackmailing journalists" during its two-year activity is deniable.

Besides, as the result of PC, the number of court claims, amount of fines against mass media and journalists rather decreased. Press underwent trial for 45 times and was fined 1 billion 600 million manats in 2003.This was 13, and 445 million manats relevantly in 2004.

Prestigious organization like "Freedom House" should have based on the opinions of specialist, organizations knowing the condition of press in the country. It is a pity that "Freedom House" didn't do that and showed disrespect towards PC".
