Baku and Ankara are ensuring Europe’s energy security, the Turkish presidential administration told Trend May 21.

The administration noted that Baku and Ankara managed to use their potential for the benefit of the region.

Presently, the relations between Turkey and Azerbaijan are at the highest level and the two countries are the key states of the region in political, economic and energy terms, according to the presidential administration.

Commenting on the opening of the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) expected in the near future, the administration said that this project has always been a priority for Ankara.

“The implementation of the TANAP project has become an indicator of how Azerbaijan and Turkey used their potential for the benefit of the region, as well as Europe,” the Turkish presidential administration said.

Earlier, Berat Albayrak, the minister of energy and natural resources of Turkey, said that the commissioning ceremony of TANAP will be held June 12, 2018.

TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to the western borders of Turkey. The gas will be delivered to Turkey in 2018 and after completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline's construction the gas will be delivered to Europe in early 2020.

The length of TANAP is 1,850 kilometers with an initial capacity of 16 billion cubic meters of gas. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas is meant to be delivered to Turkey, with the remaining volume to be supplied to Europe.
