President Ilham Aliyev viewed newly renovated facilities in Sumgayit [UPDATE]

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in the city of Sumgayit for a visit on September 27, Azertac reported.

The head of state first laid flowers at a statue of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the center of the city of Sumgayit.

Head of the Sumgayit City Executive Authority Zakir Farajov informed President Ilham Aliyev about the work carried out around the statue and in the city.

President Aliyev viewed renovation on the Sulh Street - the main entry road to the city of Sumgayit.

Head of Sumgayit City Executive Authority Zakir Farajov informed President Aliyev that renovation work started this February and ended in early September. The length of the street from Baku-Quba highway to Goyarchin monument in the city is 5.2 km.

The President was informed that before reconstruction there was no pavement here. New sidewalks were built, sewage lines were laid on both sides of the road. Green areas were created, trees and bushes were planted, an automatic irrigation system was installed along the road. The new state-of the-art lighting system was also installed, decorative walls were built along the street. The width of the traffic section of the road was expanded from 14 metres to 22 metres.

President Aliyev viewed conditions created in the newly-renovated Sumgayit State Drama Theatre.

The head of state was informed that renovation here started last December. All engineering and technical facilities were completely overhauled during the revovation work. A 500-seat performance and 100-seat conference halls were supplied with state-of the-art equipment. A- 360 degree moving scene, modern acoustic and lightening systems and other equipment are installed here in order to ensure a high level of performance from both the artistic and technical view points. National architectural traditions were widely used to make the theatre look more attractive.

Two new fountains and a monitor were installed in front of the theatre.

President Ilham Aliyev then was informed about passenger buses to be used in Sumgayit.

President Aliyev attended the opening of Sumgayit Seaside Boulevard and a city beach, as part of the visit.

The President was informed that the boulevard, which stretches 4km along the Caspian Sea coast, occupies a total area of 106 hectares. The construction of the boulevard started last October.

A Flag Square was built in the boulevard, with the flagpole here standing 42 metres in height. Work carried out in the complex included the planting of 100,000 trees, more than 500,000 different rose bushes, creation of a lawn, which occupies an area of 60,000 square metres, installation of a modern lightening system, security cameras and monitors, construction of a water supply and sewage system and pedestrian zones. The complex also has a bicycle track, three cafes and tea houses, a cinema theatre, a tennis court, football pitches, an open-air stage, shops and children`s entertainment zones.

The President was told that the beach occupies an area of 12 hectares. More than 500 new jobs will be created here.

The head of state also viewed the newly renovated Sahil Street in the city of Sumgayit.

He was informed that the street is 7.5 km in length. The road here was built in early 1980s. It was renovated last November. The width of the road is between 8 and 13 metres.

Renovation work included the construction of sidewalks, repair of stores and facilities, installation of a new lightening system, the planting of decorative trees and bushes along the road, and creation of the first bicycle track in Sumgayit.

As part of his visit the President took part at the inauguration of a Chess School in Sumgayit.

President Ilham Aliyev was informed that the two-storey school building, whose construction started last December, occupies a total area of 1,000 square metres. The school was supplied with a state-of the-art equipment. The school has a total enrollment of 550-600 pupils in 25 groups. They are served by 25 teachers.

President Aliyev further attended the opening of a Children's Art School as part of his visit to Sumgayit.

The construction of the building started last December.

The three-storey school has 80 classrooms. The school was provided with state-of the-art equipment. The school will have a total enrollment of 800 pupils who will be served by 226 teachers.

There is a bust to national leader Heydar Aliyev in the foyer of the center. There are also photo stands reflecting national leader Heydar Aliyev's and President Ilham Aliyev`s attention to youth.

The President was informed that the construction of the center started last November. The three-storey center occupies an area of 4,100 square metres. The center houses audiences, a conference hall, electronic library, Internet, linguistic and drawing rooms, photo studio and dance hall. The center will employ 25-30 people.

After viewing the center President Aliyev had a meeting with members of the general public of Sumgayit.
