To date, some 498 persons have applied to the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan to register as candidates for participating in the upcoming parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for November 1.
This was announced at the CEC meeting on September 12.
It was also noted that to date, 74 observers have passed registration with the CEC to monitor parliamentary elections in the country, 69 of which are self-nominated observers, while five persons were put forth by NGOs.
The CEC also registered authorized representatives of several political parties and party blocs -- six authorized representatives from the Democratic Reforms Party, 11 from the Azadlig-2015 bloc, 20 from the Musavat party, and six from the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan passed the registration.
Earlier, 57 people and six authorized representatives for financial issues from the Azadlig-2015 political bloc, as well as 15 authorized representatives from the Democratic Reforms Party of Azerbaijan, seven from the National Independence Party of Azerbaijan, four authorized representatives and one for financial issues from the Social Welfare Party of Azerbaijan, and 38 authorized representatives from the Musavat party, 10 from the Civil Solidarity Party, and 18 authorized representatives and one for financial issues from the Democratic Party of Azerbaijan were registered for the parliamentary elections.
The CEC has already reviewed and approved 158 permanent representatives of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, 21 from the Civil Solidarity Party, and 10 from the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan for the upcoming parliamentary election.
Campaigning will start on October 9 and will end on October 31 at 8:00 a.m. exactly 23 days before voting as required by law. Campaign leaflets will be placed at polling stations until October 2.
The submission of all election documents necessary for the registration of candidates to district election commissions kicked off on September 12 and will last until 18:00 October 2.
According to the schedule, election documents can be submitted by the candidate and his/her authorized representative, or the authorized representative of the political party/bloc of the candidate.
The verification of the authenticity of documentation and decisions regarding candidate eligibility will be made within seven days after receiving the documents at the district election commissions.
Registration for election monitoring should be submitted to the CEC by October 22.
To conduct transparent elections, more than 1,000 cameras are expected to be installed in polling stations in Azerbaijan’s regions and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Some 296 cameras will be installed in Baku polling stations alone.
