EU ready for negotiations on joint airspace with Azerbaijan

The EU is ready to start negotiations on joint airspace with Azerbaijan, the head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan Malena Mard told the media April 1.

The issue of creating joint airspace between Azerbaijan and the EU will be discussed during the EU summit in Riga in May 2015.

She said that the EU and Azerbaijan did not discuss this issue in 2014.

"We are ready to start negotiations this year if Azerbaijan agrees," Mard said.

Creating of joint airspace is an initiative of the European Commission. According to it, the division of airspace and its management will be common for most European countries.

Eastern Partnership is a program of the European Union, aimed at the development of the EU integration relations with six countries, namely, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, Georgia and Belarus.

Another summit of the Eastern Partnership member-states will be held in Riga on May 21-22.
