The 4th summit of the heads of state of the Caspian littoral states has started in Astrakhan, the Russian Federation.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attended the Summit.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin welcomed President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Turkmenistan Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov.

The Astrakhan Summit will discuss a variety of issues, including the legal status of the Caspian basin, the strengthening of security of the sea and joint activities towards the dealing with common challenges, the protection of the unique natural environment and biological resources of the Caspian Sea, topical regional and international matters. The heads of state will review the implementation of the decisions made at the previous summits and determine the main priorities of the development of relations among the Caspian littoral states.
The 1st summit of heads of state of the Caspian littoral states was held in Ashgabat in 2002, the 2nd in Tehran in 2007, and the 3rd in Baku in 2010.
Five-sided intergovernmental documents have been signed as part of the 4th summit of the heads of state of the Caspian littoral states in Astrakhan with the participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Turkmenistan Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov.
An agreement on cooperation in hydrometeorology of the Caspian Sea, an agreement on cooperation in warning and liquidating emergencies in the Caspian Sea and an agreement on the preservation and rational use of water biological resources in the Caspian Sea were signed by relevant ministries of the Caspian littoral states.
Then President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Turkmenistan Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov signed a statement of the presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Russia Vladimir Putin, President of Iran Hassan Rouhani, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Turkmenistan Gurbangulu Berdimuhamedov, who attended the 4th summit of the heads of state of the Caspian littoral states in Astrakhan, have walked along the banks of the Volga River.
Then the Presidents attended a ceremony to release belugas bred in Astrakhan into the Volga.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who was on a working visit in Astrakhan, the Russian Federation, has met with President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani.
During the meeting, the sides noted that bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Iran were developing successfully in a variety of fields. The parties stressed the importance of high-level meetings in terms of the further strengthening of ties. The presidents exchanged views on the issues related to prospects for cooperation in political, economic, energy, transport and other fields.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev in Astrakhan.
The parties expressed satisfaction with the level of traditionally friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan and noted that there was good potential for the development of the bilateral ties.
The sides discussed the issues related to the expansion of the cooperation between the two countries in a variety of areas.
