EU firmly committed to strengthening cooperation with Eastern European partners

The European Union remains firmly committed to continue advancing the political association, economic integration with the Eastern European partners, Deputy High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Helga Schmidt said on Sept.9.

She made the remarks during the opening of the 4th informal meeting of foreign ministers of EU Eastern Partnership countries in Baku.

"We very much believe in further strengthening of our coordination and cooperation on some of very pressing foreign policy and security challenges," the EU high representative stressed.

Schmidt said she had a very interesting meeting with women representatives of civil society in Baku and had discussions on women problems around the world and the issues of strengthening civil society.

The 4th informal meeting of foreign ministers of EU Eastern Partnership countries started in Baku on Sept.9.

The main purpose of the meeting is to expand partnership under the Eastern Partnership program and discuss the progress achieved after the summit in Vilnius in 2013.

It is planned to hold a press conference following the meeting.

The meeting is attended by EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule, Deputy High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Helga Schmidt, Georgian and Moldavian foreign ministers, as well as Belarusian and Ukrainian deputy foreign ministers.

Armenia isn't represented at the event.
