Sports ground built and commissioned in India’s Goa State on initiative of Heydar Aliyev Foundation - PHOTOS

A sports ground has been built and commissioned in the Goa State of India on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

Education centers in Goa are located in the cities of Panjim, Margao, Mapusa and Vasco.

Absence of a public transport between the surrounding villages and the cities causes difficulties for children going to school. In order to solve this problem, “Pilar” Catholic Society has built 10 schools, a Catholic college and an orphanage in the neighbourhood. At present, thousands of children are studying at these schools.

Representative of the Pilar Society Teodor Maskarena noted that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was the only organization which responded to the request for help. Within 18 months a stadium has been built.

Following the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which had provided disinterested support to these schools built for charity purposes, a sports ground has been built there for children.

The inauguration of the stadium called “Father Agnelo” was attended by Ambassador of Azerbaijan to India Ibrahim Hajiyev, and representatives of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

In his speech, Ambassador Ibrahim Hajiyev noted that the two countries have deep-rooted historical ties, and described the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s initiative as another contribution to strengthening friendly relations between Azerbaijan and India. He said the initiative of First Lady, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva would upgrade existing ties to a much higher level.

Following the official opening ceremony, the first football match in the new stadium saw the clash between “Pilar” orphanage and team of the Goa State. The children from the orphanage played in the friendly match under the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s flag.
