
Artists of Moscow musical theatre “Helikon-opera” have performed an opera “Siberia” by acclaimed Italian composer Umberto Giordano on the stage of the Heydar Aliyev Center.
Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva was present at the event.
The performance was directed by Dmitry Bertman, Russian theatre and opera director and the founder and artistic director of Helikon Opera in Moscow.
Premiered at La Scala, Milan, on 19th December 1903, Siberia which is an opera in three acts, was Giordano`s seventh opera. The libretto by Luigi Illica was inspired by Tolstoy`s last novel Resurrection (1899) and draws on real people involved in the 1825 Decembrist Revolt, notably Sergei Grigorievich Volkonsky and his wife Maria Raevskaya.
